Mallary: Here are my top tips when applying for a role.

So tip number one, remember to use the STAR method as a tool 'cause what it will do it is will help you share your story and really invite your audience into your experience and skills and how you really do meet those capabilities.

Tip number two, don't be too general in your example. Remember to be specific. Talk about the actions you took and what was the result of those actions. By being specific, you're clearly showing that you are meeting the capabilities.

Top tip number three. Remember to take a breath and take a moment to really think about the question, how you're going to respond, and if you need the question to be repeated, just ask. It's okay to take your time in your responses.

And tip number four, be proud. Be yourself. We really value your cultural experiences and uniqueness that you bring to the various roles.

Information alert

Please note that at DCJ we commonly use the word "Aboriginal", recognising that Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of NSW, the part of Australia we are responsible for. We acknowledge and respect that Torres Strait Islander people are among the First Nations of Australia and that both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are an important part of our staff and the communities we work with.
