Communities and Justice

Working for us

About DCJ

The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) aims to create safe, just, inclusive and resilient communities through its services across NSW.

DCJ’s work supports everyone's right to access justice, helps families, and promotes early intervention and inclusion, to provide benefits for the whole community. We do this by working with children, adults, families, and communities to deliver services with a unified and collaborative approach.

When working at DCJ you are part of the collective objective of achieving vibrant, sustainable, and inclusive communities.

Why work at DCJ

In NSW, DCJ is one of 10 public sector departments that deliver vital services to our community. As Australia’s largest child protection provider, DCJ directly supports approximately 800,000 people every year and reaches a further million people through local community-based programs.

We collaborate with government, non-government, and community partners to work with children, adults, families and communities to improve lives and realise potential with a focus on breaking rather than managing disadvantage.

DCJ is committed to building a workplace culture that values diversity and inclusion. We actively promote the employment of people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, LGBTI and other diversity groups, and are a Disability Confident Recruiter.

DCJ offers a broad range of roles to help build careers based on talent and skills.

We are committed to building a workplace that values and supports diversity and inclusion. We do this by actively promoting the employment of people with a disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, women, LGBTIQ+ and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

Employment support for people with disability

There are many ways in which DCJ provides employment support for people with disability, both during the recruitment process and at work.

These include:

  • designing recruitment materials and tools for everyone (role descriptions, application forms, selection processes) which are available in accessible or alternative formats
  • offering adjustments during the assessment stage to people with disability so that they can participate fully in the recruitment process
  • providing workplace adjustments to enable our employees with disability to perform the inherent requirements of the role to their full potential
  • encouraging staff and managers to undertake disability awareness training
  • facilitating the DCJ Disability Employee Network (DEN) which provides peer support and useful information to members and contributes to organisational decision-making such as policy development.

This means they work closely with hiring managers to provide guidance on all recruitment and selection processes to ensure they are accessible and inclusive for people with disability.

We continue to learn new ways to be more inclusive every day and are committed to making improvements in the recruitment process and in the workplace. That is why we are a proud member of the Australian Network on Disability.

We look forward to working alongside you, doing meaningful work, making a difference and having an impact.
