    Transcript

The work that we do is very valuable to the community. It's extremely rewarding.

Justice is a very important role that we play. I've been fortunate enough to be able to travel all over NSW.

There's always something interesting, something new to learn. Sometimes it's even just being in courtroom and just listening. I will say there's never a boring day.

At DCJ there's a big push for career progression and career satisfaction.
There's lots of room to develop your skills and move into other areas.
The good thing about the department is that they do train you in everything that you need to do.

Originally I came in as a general scale, so basically entry level.
I was automatically matched with a mentor, so teaching me all the ins and outs.

I started the job without any prior experience working with DCJ, and all of my colleagues have been amazing in helping me.

The work culture is very busy, but everyone seems to be really happy.
It's all about teamwork and team effort.

You don't actually need to go to university at all. You can just come in and they will train you on everything that you need to do.

With any job there's always challenges. Courts are an emotional place. It's very serious what we do here. The sort of matters that we deal with in a day — you have to have that support from your fellow colleagues, otherwise it would be a very, very difficult job.

It's good to have a nice supportive team. It's not so much the tasks that you do that make work a nice place to be at. It really depends on the people that you're working with.

When I started as young as I did, it certainly formed me into the person that I am now. And I've gained a lot of confidence and a lot of life skills from this job that I don't think could get working in another type of industry.
