Gaining approval to use unspent DCJ funds

Funded contracts

DCJ will accept applications to retain and use unspent funds (DOCX, 439.4 KB) from your organisation, where unspent funds fall within the notified exceptions.

You may make a request to retain and use unspent funds by completing and submitting an application for consent to retain and use unspent funds (DOCX, 439.4 KB) to your DCJ contract manager. Applications will be accepted at the discretion of DCJ and may be denied after consideration.

The application must include the following:

  • the reason the funds weren’t spent
  • how you plan to use the unspent funds to meet the core objectives and service delivery of the program
  • the expected benefits of the use of the unspent funds.
  • a plan, budget and timeframes for the benefits to be achieved.

Your DCJ contract manager will consider whether to support your application for consent to retain and use unspent funds, and submit a recommendation to the relevant officer for consideration and final approval. Once a decision is made, we’ll notify you, in writing.

Important to note: Unspent funds are only permitted to be used to enhance contracted service delivery and the agreed program objectives.

Grants

If there is an underspend as a result of delays in the project delivery, DCJ will work with the organisation and may allow the project timeline to be extended so that the grant will eventually be fully spent.
