ACFC Enhancement Program

The nine existing Aboriginal Child and Family Centres (ACFCs) are being upgraded to strengthen their service capability and capacity, and to ensure the buildings are protected and prepared for future environmental impacts.

We are taking an approach guided by clear principles to infrastructure planning. We are working closely with centre managers and staff to prioritise infrastructure investments for their ACFCs, ensuring this investment meets the needs and priorities of ACFCs, and their families and communities.

The ACFC Enhancement Program is designed to:

  • improve how each centre is used
  • strengthen service delivery
  • mitigate the risk of exposure to environmental hazards.

ACFC Enhancement Program Delivery

The following information outlines the phases for delivering the ACFC Enhancement Program.

Phase 1

Phase 1 of the Enhancement Program focused on essential maintenance and repairs to help preserve each centre and improve its overall condition.

Phase 1 was completed in October 2024.

Phase 2

Phase 2 of the Enhancement Program is focused on upgrading and expanding existing ACFCs to support more children and families, strengthen service delivery, and to ensure each centre is set up for the future.

We have developed an Infrastructure Prioritisation Framework in consultation with each ACFC. The Framework helps guide decisions about where to make infrastructure investments by looking at how each centre is used, its condition, capacity, location and the unique needs and priorities of the communities the ACFCs serve.

The Phase 2 enhancements were approved by ACFCs in October 2024. The majority are now in the design phase, where the ACFCs are working in partnership with an Indigenous architect studio, specialising in Designing with Country, to bring their vision to life. Construction is expected to commence from late 2025, and the timeframes will be dependent on the scope of works and development application requirements.
