Special Liability Insurance Scheme

Overview

The Special Liability Insurance Scheme (SLIS) will commence on 1 January 2025 and will be operated by Insurance and Care NSW (icare). It will replace DCJ’s Short-Term Indemnity Scheme which ends on 31 December 2024.

The SLIS is a government insurance scheme which will provide physical and sexual abuse (PSA) cover for NGO service providers who deliver OOHC and youth homelessness services on behalf of the DCJ.

The scheme will address the lack of available commercial insurance coverage for PSA claims and ensure OOHC and youth homelessness service providers can continue delivering essential services to children, young people and their families.

Background information on PSA insurance is available on the NGO physical and sexual abuse insurance interjurisdictional working group page.
