DCJ again named Australia’s most attractive public sector employer

Tuesday, 10 June 2025

The NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has once again been named Australia’s most attractive public sector employer, while finishing as the third-ranked employer overall, according to a national study.

Recruitment company Randstad Australia surveyed more than 5,400 Australians who gave their feedback on Australia’s largest employers.

The study covers several drivers of appeal, including job security, financial health, career progression, and convenient locations.

DCJ came in third behind only Calvary Healthcare and Bunnings with Randstad reporting that the survey results were driven by a growth in workforce representation by Gen Z, who prioritise good training, diversity and inclusion, and strong management.

DCJ scored notably well on career progression opportunities, job security, and the promotion of equitable outcomes for its employees.

DCJ Secretary Michael Tidball said:

“We are proud to be recognised again as the most attractive public sector employer in Australia.

“At DCJ, our values of service, trust, accountability, integrity and respect guide our work and dedication to delivering a high standard of service to the communities we serve throughout NSW.

“I’m pleased to see DCJ recognised this year for career progression opportunities, job security, and the promotion of equitable outcomes for staff.”

DCJ Chief People Officer Catherine Carvolth said:

“We want to acknowledge the more than 15,000 staff who make our department an engaging and purposeful place to work.

“This is a wonderful result and we will continue to improve on it.

“We’re determined to maintain our reputation as an attractive employer and strive to make DCJ an even better place to work in the years to come.”
