Surveillance Devices Commissioner

Don McKenzie is the Surveillance Devices Commissioner (SD Commissioner), appointed under the Surveillance Devices Act 2007 (the Act).

As SD Commissioner he exercises delegated functions of the Attorney General under the Act, including:

  • receiving notice of pending applications for warrants under the Act
  • making submissions to eligible Judges in relation to the issue of warrants under the Act; and
  • receiving and considering reports on the use of surveillance devices under the authority of the Act.

As SD Commissioner, Mr McKenzie exercises leadership in the development of a comprehensive framework on the use of surveillance devices in criminal investigations by law enforcement agencies.
