Newtown Courthouse gets the star treatment

Newtown Courthouse, which rose to worldwide fame after featuring in the 2014 Coldplay music video for A Sky Full of Stars, is getting a makeover.

The courthouse will close from June 30 while essential maintenance works, valued at $650,000, take place to help restore this heritage-listed building.

Built in 1885, Newtown Courthouse is regarded as an outstanding example of Victorian Italianate- style architecture.

The courthouse’s distinctive façade features prominently in the music video for A Sky Full of Stars, which has been viewed millions of times.

Installation of internal and external scaffolding is required to safely carry out the works which will preserve the significant heritage of the local landmark.

Registry services and court listings will be relocated to Burwood Local Court, 7-9 Belmore Rd, Burwood from Monday July 3 while the work at Newtown Courthouse takes place.
