Project objective

The Disability Council NSW, with support from the Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), will hold forums with Local Government to develop and promote a culture and awareness of inclusion and rights based community engagement, through education activities and communication strategies.

The challenge

Councils understanding their role in promoting a culture and awareness of inclusion through various strategies. This is important as it will assist when creating their DIAPs.

What will success look like?

DIAP's contain relevant information according to the DIP and in alignment with the Disability Inclusion Act.

Status update:

Two forums were held in 2022 being for local councils on 29 September 2022 and NSW public authorities on 13 October 2022 both covering DIAP planning

Two forums were held during 2023 being for:

  1. Local councils on 2 August 2023 covering key learnings from 2021-22, role of Local Govt NSW, ideas to enchance outcomes, inclusive employment practices for people with intellectual disability, disability inclusive disaster risk reduction, examples of best practices
  2. NSW public authorities on 7 August 2023 covering 2021-22 progress reports, employment practices, Best practice HR, disability inclusion is everyone's business
