Motivational Interviewing Workshop

Course overview

The Motivational Interviewing Workshop first introduces the concept and underpinning philosophies of Motivational Interviewing. Learners are exposed to the core communication skills and tools/techniques that are central to Motivational Interviewing; throughout this, they will be engaging in multiple practical activities to practice these skills and techniques.

Learners benefit from multiple pre-recorded demonstrations of Motivational Interviewing as well as role play demonstrations to consolidate the skills and techniques learned. 

Course outcomes

This workshop aims to provide learners with an understanding of the skills and techniques to effectively work with individuals in a manner that promotes behaviour change. Learners will gain knowledge and skills in the following areas:

  • Apply Motivational Interviewing skills and techniques when working with offenders
  • Complete goal-setting plans
  • Manage the risks and needs of offenders
  • Conduct interviews effectively
  • Negotiate behaviour change
  • Assist offenders to change behaviour
  • Gather, analyse, and report information to guide the best course of action for an offender.

Open to all operational staff.

This workshop will require completion of the following;

  • Face to face / Virtual attendance (2-days)
