Priority 3: Deliver effective engagement and communication with multicultural communities

Priority 3 is divided into five sub-priorities to ensure the needs of people are understood and engagement in policy, programs and services is demonstrated. Each sub-priority includes actions and identifies the area within DCJ responsible and the timeframe for that action to be implemented.

Sub-priority 3.1 and actions

Build DCJ's workforce confidence to support and engage with the evolving needs of multicultural communities through culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches

This includes leadership accountability to support staff in building and maintaining ongoing cultural confidence and competence, including capability in cultural safety, while also incorporating trauma-informed approaches to support others and manage their own experiences.

Sub-priority 3.2 and actions

Recognise and respect culturally significant dates and events

Use these occasions as opportunities to engage with communities, deepen understanding of community needs and strengthen relationships built on respect and inclusion.

Sub-priority 3.3 and actions

Ensure DCJ service providers are committed to delivering culturally safe, responsive and trauma informed programs and services to diverse communities

This includes strengthening accountability mechanisms across procurement, commissioning, and contract management processes.

Sub-priority 3.4 and actions

Ensure DCJ communications and media reflect the voices and experiences of multicultural communities

This should be informed by meaningful, strengths-based and intersectional perspectives.

Sub-priority 3.5 and actions

Strengthen and maintain reciprocal, trust-based engagement with community groups to raise awareness and understanding of DCJ's programs and services

Use targeted, culturally informed approaches and partner with diverse, trusted stakeholders to enhance relationships, trust and reach. Engagement should reflect diverse, intergenerational perspectives. Where appropriate, collaborate across agencies to support coordinated, holistic approaches that meet diverse community needs.
