Priority 1: Enable multicultural communities to equitably access DCJ programs and services

Priority 1 is divided into four sub-priorities to ensure barriers are removed for all people to engage with policies and access programs and services, enabling them to harness the strengths they bring to NSW. Each sub-priority includes actions and identifies the area within DCJ responsible and the timeframe for that action to be implemented.

Sub-priority 1.1 and actions

Strengthen access to language services

Continue to provide and strengthen access to language services, to enable people to meaningfully engage with DCJ programs and services.

Sub-priority 1.2 and actions

Ensure DCJ information and resources are written in Plain English, are accessible and available in multiple languages. Where appropriate, they are also provided in alternative formats such as Auslan, Easy Read and other formats that support diverse communication needs

These resources (including websites, forms, documents and signage) should support digital inclusion and meet communication needs of multicultural communities, enabling everyone to confidently engage with DCJ services.

Sub-priority 1.3 and actions

Deliver accessible, trauma-informed and culturally safe services and programs

These should respond to the varied experiences and intersectional needs of people from culturally diverse backgrounds, including those in regional areas, building trust through respectful and inclusive service delivery.

Sub-priority 1.4 and actions

Effectively engage and educate multicultural communities about policy changes, legislation and emerging issues related to DCJ services and programs

This should be done in innovative and culturally relevant ways and include those in regional areas.
