On this page, you will find the definitions of some acronyms we use in the rest of this plan.

The ActThe Disability Inclusion Act 2014 (NSW) is the law that guides this plan. The Act sets out the principles and responsibilities for NSW Government departments, prescribed agencies, and local councils relating to disability inclusion.
ADSAustralia’s Disability Strategy 2021–2031 is the national strategy to build an inclusive Australian society that ensures people with disability can fulfil their potential as equal members of the community. 
DCJThe NSW Department of Communities and Justice is the government department responsible for a wide range of services. This includes operating an effective legal system, increasing access to social and affordable housing, supporting and protecting children and families, addressing domestic violence, supporting young offenders, and promoting community diversity and social cohesion.
DENThe DCJ Disability Employee Network is a staff-run employee group dedicated to making DCJ an inclusive workplace for employees with disability.
DIAADisability Inclusion and Accessibility Advocates are DCJ staff who have volunteered to support the implementation of this DIAP by fostering learning and understanding of disability in their teams.
DIAPThe DCJ Disability Inclusion Action Plan outlines actions that DCJ will take to reduce and remove barriers for our clients, our people, and the community.
DIPThe NSW Disability Inclusion Plan 2026–2029 is the whole of government strategy that sets out how the NSW Government will improve the lives of people with disability. The NSW DIP guides the development of DIAPs, including this plan.
DRCThe Royal Commission into Violence, Abuse, Neglect and Exploitation of People with Disability or the Disability Royal Commission was an inquiry into violence, abuse, neglect, and exploitation of people with disability.
LGBTIQ+Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, queer and other sexually or diverse people. This term recognises common experiences of marginalisation faced by this community.
NDISThe National Disability Insurance Scheme provides funding to eligible people with disability to access reasonable and necessary supports and services.
PMESThe NSW People Matter Employee Survey asks public sector employees about their experience and perceptions of a range of workplace issues and practices, including diversity and inclusion.
