What we have done so far
DCJ made disability inclusion part of core business. Examples include:
- Youth Justice staff adapting their communication styles to meet the needs of young people,
- the Campaigns, Strategy & Events team ensuring all our events are accessible and inclusive, and
- DCJ continuing to partner with disability employment service providers and employment portals to advertise vacancies.
7.7% of DCJ employees identified as people with disability in 2025.
DCJ also:
- hosted 9 interns from the Australian Disability Network’s Stepping Into internship program in 2024–2025,
- established an Accessibility Community of Practice that supports delivering accessible communications,
- created an Accessible Communications Policy to guide the production of inclusive products,
- launched our Accessibility Academy, graduating 124 employees through a personalised role-based learning pathway,
- launched an Accessibility Studio where staff can test products and services and address accessibility barriers before they are launched,
- ranked Australia’s most attractive public sector employer in 2025, scoring highly on the promotion of equitable outcomes for our employees.
Anti-Discrimination NSW published case studies and podcasts about workplace adjustments on their website.
In the Access and Inclusion Index 2024, we ranked:
- 1st out of 37 state and territory organisations,
- 2nd out of all participating organisations.
Across our frontline services and central offices, DCJ installed:
- 22 hearing augmentation units,
- 64 hearing loops, and
- 15 counter loops.
