Two new reforms are strengthening child sexual abuse laws. They started in August 2018 and are the failure to protect and failure to report offenses. These two offenses aim to reduce the risk of a child becoming a victim of abuse.
Further linked reforms began on 1 December 2018. Read more in the reforms fact sheet. Read the strengthening child sexual abuse laws in NSW discussion paper.
The reform package includes a range of measures to better protect children and improve outcomes for survivors of child sexual abuse. These changes are in response to the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse.
