Trauma Informed Care

What kind of training do you offer?

LINKS Training and Support currently offers training in trauma informed care and problematic and harmful sexual behaviour (PHSB).

Healing From Trauma

Healing From Trauma training is based on Trauma Systems Therapy for Foster Care (TST-FC), an evidence-based program founded by the Annie E Casey Foundation. We have adapted this program to meet the specific needs of the NSW out-of-home-care system.

The training provides practical strategies to respond to challenging emotions and behaviours, handle stressful situations and connect with children who have experienced trauma.

There are four interactive modules exploring the impact of trauma; strategies to address trauma; coping with difficult behaviour; and generating signals of safety.

Healing From Trauma has equivalent modules for carers and professionals, which aim to create a common language and shared understanding of trauma.

You’ve Got This!

You've Got This! training focusses on understanding, preventing and responding to problematic and harmful sexual behaviours. It’s been developed by LINKS Training and Support using up to date research and practice advice.

There are three interactive modules focused on identifying, preventing and responding to PHSB.

You’ve Got This! has equivalent modules for carers and professionals, which aim to create a common language and shared understanding of PHSB. Participants will discover the role trauma can play in PHSB; explore current research, practical strategies and common language; and learn how to reduce the risks for kids in OOHC.

You’ve Got This! is recommended for people supporting all kids in OOHC, not only those displaying PHSB.

Are your training and resources available to NGO-based carers and caseworkers?

Yes! We’re here to support everyone working with, or caring for, kids in out-of-home care. Our Train the Trainer programs also allow NGO staff to become qualified training facilitators! Please email linkssupport@dcj.nsw.gov.au for further information.

Is your training suitable for Aboriginal carers and caseworkers?

LINKS Training and Support has consulted widely to ensure that the training we provide is culturally sensitive and appropriate for Aboriginal carers and caseworkers. We invite attendees to share experiences from their own cultural and spiritual perspectives, and encourage healing through cultural connection.
