Closing the Gap Target 12 Quarterly Report

Target 12: Aboriginal children are not overrepresented in out-of-home care (OOHC)

By 2031, reduce the rate of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children in out-of-home care by 45%.

The Closing the Gap Target 12 report monitors progress towards reducing the overrepresentation of Aboriginal children in the child protection system. These indicators capture key decision-making points and outcomes of child protection system activity, including:

  • Risk of Significant Harm (ROSH) reports and safety decisions
  • OOHC entries and exits
  • placement types and caregiver relationships
  • permanency, guardianship and restoration.

The report is updated quarterly.
