This report is the second report released by the NSW Government to support an investment approach using the Human Services Dataset. It presents three business cases for three programs (or investments) targeted to vulnerable young people and their families. The 2022 report builds on and extends the previous Forecasting Future Outcomes – Stronger Communities Investment Unit 2018 Insights Report which defined six vulnerable population groups estimated to have the poorest future social and fiscal outcomes.

For each of the case studies the report presents outcomes and estimated future costs for a specific target group of interest and compare those initial results to a relative non-target group. In this way, the analysis calculates an ex-ante estimate of possible avoided costs for a program or investment expected return.

This report presents key results and insights from the Their Futures Matter Investment Model using the Human Services Dataset. The report defines six vulnerable population groups estimated to have the poorest future social and fiscal outcomes.  Each vulnerable group is analysed alongside a comparison group without vulnerability, to highlight the likelihood of poorer outcomes and the difference in estimated cost of providing government services.

This Investment model visualisation tool is a companion to the Forecasting Future Outcomes: 2018 Insights Report.

The visualisation tool features a dashboard that provides a summary view of the vulnerable groups identified in the Report.

Privacy surveys

NSW Community Attitudes Survey on Privacy and Data Sharing

In 2020,2023 and 2026, DCJ commissioned the Communities Attitude Survey (CAS) to investigate NSW community attitudes towards data sharing and privacy protection.

The objectives of the research were to enable DCJ to:

• Identify community attitudes and expectations towards data sharing, its benefits and risks, and necessary practices to manage these.
• Identify a measurable and actionable ‘threshold’ and scope of appropriate data sharing practice.
• Examine how the views and needs of vulnerable sub-groups differ from those of the wider NSW population
• Identify trends and changes over the last 3 years.
