Building a resilient future: a multicultural integrated space

The Department of Communities and Justice NSW and CORE Community Services hosted the Child, Youth, Families, Community Conference: “Building a resilient future: a multicultural integrated space” on 6 September in Southwest Sydney. The event was a resounding success, with delegates praising the powerful voices of lived experience that were shared throughout the day.

The conference delved into key themes such as co-design, collaboration, cultural humility and long-life learning, and the importance of building safe spaces towards building resilient communities. The highlight of the day were the voices of lived experiences, with delegates sharing their own stories and insights.


One delegate commented that the lived experience speakers were "incredibly inspiring" and that their stories "helped to highlight the importance of diversity and inclusion in building resilient communities."


Tasneem Chopra OAM said “The calibre of speakers and breadth of topics was superb and the retention of your attendees throughout a marathon day was testament to the value of the content. Seriously, mabrookations (my word!) on an amazing effort, 8 months in the making”.

The conference featured keynote speakers Professor Jioji Ravulo and Genevieve Muir, as well as MC Tasneem Chopra OAM. Panellists and speakers included Claire Beattie, Juana Reinoso, Robert Fitzgerald AM, Jorge Aroche, Davidson Muliaga, Johnny Nguyen, Bashar Hanna, Tahera Nassrat, Professor Shanti Raman, Dr Rhonda Itaoui, Shama Pande, Claudia Lennon, Sarah Yassine, Camilla Wawi, and Tara Neufeld.

Delegate feedback was outstanding, with many commenting on the value of the conference and the importance of continuing the conversation about building resilient multicultural communities.

This conference marks just the beginning of an ongoing conversation. The Department of Communities and Justice NSW and CORE Community Services are committed to fostering collaboration and continued dialogue across the sector
