Yevette (Aboriginal Community Corrections Officer): One of the best things about my job is seeing results.

(Yvette and Reece talking to Aboriginal man in the community)

Seeing people realize that this isn't the end or this isn't the path that they have to keep following. That they can change their life at any point in time. And they can make a difference and live a better life.

(Group of Aboriginal men meeting on Country)

They get the job, they go to the course, they change their ways.

(TAFE DIGITAL signage shown in Armidale)

It's been one week without drugs, and then it's been a whole month without drugs. And then it becomes a whole year without drugs. And they've really gotten their life on track.

(Group of Aboriginal men working on Country, doing manual labor).

(Sound of man mowing lawn).

Reece (Aboriginal Community Corrections Officer): The best thing about my job is when I see people I've worked with throughout my time at Community Corrections, being strong, independent people in their community. Whether being involved in sports or other activities. Just to see them at the park with their families and sharing a laugh.

(Reece laughs with other Aboriginal men)

Nothing speaks more volumes to that and is more rewarding knowing that you're a part of that journey to help keep them in that community.

(Animated NSW logo appears and music fades).

Information alert

Please note that at DCJ we commonly use the word "Aboriginal", recognising that Aboriginal people are the original inhabitants of NSW, the part of Australia we are responsible for. We acknowledge and respect that Torres Strait Islander people are among the First Nations of Australia and that both Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are an important part of our staff and the communities we work with.
