What we do

The Department of Communities and Justice, Legal (DCJ Legal) can provide or assist in providing legal advice and representation to witnesses called before the NSW Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), the Law Enforcement Conduct Commission (LECC) and the NSW Crime Commission (NSWCC). DCJ Legal may also provide legal representation at Royal Commissions or at Special Commissions of Inquiry, if so directed by the Attorney General.

Witnesses may receive assistance to:

  • understand their rights and obligations;
  • understand the requirements of particular processes;
  • understand the methods and procedures used;
  • ensure they are treated fairly; and
  • be legally represented at hearings in appropriate circumstances.
