Building our communities

DCJ focuses on prevention and early intervention, targeted responses and achieving more seamless operations. We work with the community, our non-government partners and other agencies to improve outcomes for: 

• people experiencing or who have experienced domestic and family violence 
• people who have experienced sexual assault 
• young people and adults in contact with the justice system 
• people experiencing or at risk of homelessness and people in need of safe and affordable housing 
• vulnerable children and young people 
• people with disability 
• Aboriginal people, who are overrepresented across our services 
• seniors, whom we support to live active and inclusive lives 
• people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.

DCJ strategic direction and purpose

DCJ’s purpose statement articulates what we are here to do.

“Our purpose is to help create a safe, just, resilient and inclusive NSW in which everyone has the opportunity to realise their potential.”

Guiding us on how we deliver on our purpose is the DCJ Strategic Direction 2020-2024 (PDF , 2.3 MB). The strategic direction provides a foundation for our work in improving outcomes in the community. It guides us in how we build a community where the people of NSW flourish and are empowered to live their lives to the full.
