School Visits and Student Placements

Downing Centre Temporary Closure

Please note, due to flooding in the Downing Centre, the building is currently closed until further notice. Student placements at the Chief Magistrate's Office and school visits to the Downing Centre are not currently available.

The Chief Magistrate's Office will consider student placement applications once the Downing Centre reopens.

School visits to other Courthouses are unaffected.

School Visits

For the Downing Centre Local Court, schools do not need to make a booking to visit the Court.

For all other Local Courts, please make arrangements with the Registrar of the particular Court. For their contact details, click here.

Student Placements

The Chief Magistrate’s Office occasionally hosts student placements for high school (Year 10, 11, and 12) students and university students. To be eligible for a student placement, you must:

  • For secondary students, undertake the placement as part of a recognised work experience program with your school;
  • For university students, undertake the placement as part of an internship subject with your university.

Due to the closure of the Downing Centre, we are currently not taking any student placement applications.
