Building Better Responses: NSW Strategy to respond to the use of Domestic and Family Violence 2026-2030

Building Better Responses: NSW Strategy to respond to the use of Domestic and Family Violence 2026-2030 (PDF, 1.0 MB) is NSW’s first dedicated strategy to respond to the use of domestic and family violence (DFV) and address perpetrator behaviour.

In 2024, the NSW Government announced a $230 million emergency funding package to reduce violence against women and children and support victim-survivors. This included $5 million for perpetrator research and effective interventions, recognising that victim-survivors cannot be kept safe without a deliberate focus on disrupting harmful attitudes and behaviours and addressing the drivers of violence. This Strategy is a direct outcome of that investment and sets the foundation for a new approach that expands our focus and shifts accountability to those who use, or are at risk of using, DFV.

A new approach to tackling DFV

The Strategy complements the substantial work being undertaken to address DFV in NSW but provides a unique focus on people who use violence. It recognises that tackling the key drivers of violence early – particularly among young people – is one of the most effective ways to break cycles of violence and protect victim-survivors.

Development of the Strategy was informed by consultation with more than 300 stakeholders, including NSW Government agencies, peak bodies, Aboriginal community-controlled organisations, service providers, academics and people with lived experience.

Action Plan

The accompanying Action Plan (PDF, 623.6 KB) identifies activities underway across government to deliver the Strategy’s outcomes. It represents the first phase of this work, which lays out the groundwork for future initiatives that will further strengthen the Strategy’s impact.
