NSW’s first dedicated statewide LGBTQIA+ legal service will be established as part of a funding agreement between the Commonwealth and NSW Governments.
To be operated by the Inner City Legal Centre, the LGBTQIA+ Services Hub will fill a gap in the state’s existing legal services and reduce barriers to justice for the LGBTQIA+ community.
Expected to be fully operational by 2027, the service will provide specialist criminal, family and civil legal advice and support regarding matters such as family, domestic and sexual violence and workplace discrimination, vilification and harassment.
It is being funded as part of the National Access to Justice Partnership, with $800,000 a year for four years (total $3.2 million) and will be relocated to new premises in the Sydney area.
It will be co-located with other LGBTQIA+ services to provide wraparound support for clients and focus on outreach responding to unmet need in regional and remote areas.
The service will be the first of its kind in NSW, significantly expanding the Inner City Legal Centre’s existing services and outreach to the LGBTQIA+ community.

“The NSW Government is proud to support the establishment of the state’s first dedicated LGBTQIA+ legal service to provide specialist advice and support to the LGBTQIA+ community.
“During the negotiations for the new National Access to Justice Partnership funds were set aside to uplift resources for legal services in areas of unmet need.
“I am pleased that Inner City Legal Centre has been one of the successful parties in this tender.
“We know stigma and discrimination can make it harder for people who are queer or gender diverse to access legal advice and support for sexual, family and domestic violence as well as discrimination and vilification.
“This standalone legal service for the LGBTQIA+ community will significantly expand the Inner City Legal Centre’s ability to help vulnerable members of the community access justice.
“Since we were elected to government in 2023 many people have come to see me to talk about the need for this service, and I am pleased we have now been able to help deliver it.”
