Technology for flexible working - FACS system users

Technology for flexible working

Information and Digital Services (IDS) enables the Department through technology to work flexibly and remotely. While IDS continues to modernise ways of working through the deployment of Windows 10 enabled laptops and tablets, all ex-FACS/LAHC/AHO staff currently have access to a range of technology that enables a mobile workforce.

How to access Citrix applications remotely

(Outlook, Intranet, Network File Shares, SAP Self Service, TRIM, Business Applications)

All former FACS/LAHC/AHO employees can remotely access the network using the Citrix Receiver/Citrix Workspace app.

The Citrix app can be installed on any personal Windows or Mac computer, as well as Apple and Android phones and tablets.

On Windows and Mac

To access Citrix applications on your Windows or Mac computer, follow the instructions below:

  1. In any browser, go to: https://remote.facs.nsw.gov.au
  2. Enter your iSecure secret answer or code sent to your mobile phone.
  3. If you’re using a device that hasn’t accessed the FACS network remotely before, you’ll be prompted to download the Citrix App.

On other devices

See instructions to:

Citrix segregates your personal computer from work applications. This means the Department does not have access to your personal files and in doing so also keeps the Department’s IT systems secure.

Citrix compresses data traffic which means it is able to work on all Internet connection speeds and uses low volumes of data. On average, staff using Citrix from home for a standard 35 hour working week would use 5GB of internet data. By compassion, watching Netflix uses 1GB of data per hour. In 2020, most home broadband Internet plans have ‘unlimited data’ inclusions.

For more information, please see the full set of Citrix knowledge articles in ServiceNow.

Receiving telephone calls when away from the office

When working away from the office, you can forward your landline to another telephone number, including a mobile phone. You can setup call forwarding from the physical handset or you can configure this when offsite through the Cisco Self Care Portal.

Some staff may have access to a ‘soft phone’ which uses a software application (known as Cisco Jabber) that runs on your computer to make and receive telephone calls through your laptop. Access can be provided to a soft phone if you have a corporate laptop and if your physical Cisco telephone handset is returned to Information and Digital Services (IDS). Staff can request a migration to a soft phone by submitting a ServiceNow request (purchase of headset is required).

Some employees who travel regularly have access to a corporate mobile phone. For information on requirements and costs to order a mobile phone please see ServiceNow.

Collaboration tools to keep in touch

All employees are provided with access to Microsoft (MS) Teams. MS Teams allows employees to send instant messages, create team chats, collaborate on work documents in real time and hold audio/video meetings from their corporate computer or any personal device, including iPhones and iPads.

More information on MS teams is available on the FACS intranet.

Staff can contact the IDS Operations IT Service Desk for further support on 9765 3999 from 8.00am to 6.00pm Monday to Friday.
