Project objective

Hunter & Central Coast District Inclusion Action plan has been co-developed with staff and identifies ways that we can make our district more inclusive, leverage our diversity to create more opportunities for both staff and clients and make Hunter and Central Coast district an even better place to work. The plan focuses on six key areas, including disability.

What will success look like?

Recruiters will have more confidence and be able to better tailor the recruitment process to ensure people with disability have equity.  Increase numbers of people with disability entering talent pools.

Appropriate workplace adjustments are made for people with disability to improve productivity and ensure that performance is measured appropriately.

Each workgroup has an increased understanding about disability issues and will be able to ensure people with disability are supported.

Planned actions

  1. Require all staff involved with recruitment to complete the Disability Confident for Recruiters training
  2. Roll out training for all Hunter & Central Coast managers on workplace adjustment
  3. Engage the districts Disability Employee Network members to improve staff knowledge and understanding of disability

Status Notes:

To July 2022

  1. Implemented - Panel convenors are required to ensure that panel members have completed the Disability Confident for Recruiters training before taking part in recruitment.
  2. Underway - to be implemented in line with the People Partnership Plan for Hunter & Central Coast District.
  3. Underway - priority planning meeting to be held in August 2022 to discuss future actions and desired outcomes.

September 2023

The Hunter and Central Coast has continued to be committed to the actions developed as part o the District Inclusion Action Plan: 

  • all staff being involved with recruitment to complete the Disability Confident for Recruitment training 
  • rolling out training for all Hunter and Central Coast managers on workplace adjustments 
  • engaging the district’s Disability Employee Network members to improve staff knowledge and understanding of disability.
