Project summary

CIDNSW will run 4 one-day Easy Read workshops, providing training to 40 Youth Justice staff.

Focus Area:

  • Developing positive community attitudes and behaviours.
  • Improving access to mainstream services through better systems and processes.

Project objective

Staff will learn how to develop and convert documents and communications to ‘Easy Read’

Adapting communication style including diagrams, pictures, writing things down, talking through material according to the client/customer’s preference and deliver interventions considering young person’s ability.

Why is this important?

Staff will learn how to develop and convert documents and communications to ‘Easy Read’ making resources easier to understand for people with cognitive impairment/low literacy levels/ language and communication delay.

  • 2 sessions delivered for 2020/2021 (one delayed due to COVID restrictions)
  • 2 sessions delivered for 2021/2022
  • 19 staff were trained in 2021/2022 and another 11 in 2022/2023
