Some family members find viewing the deceased helpful. Others choose not to do so. Should you wish, you can discuss the possibility of viewing with a counsellor or with the funeral director. In most cases, viewings of the deceased can be arranged through your funeral director.
If you would like to see the deceased while the body is at the Lidcombe mortuary, you must contact the Counselling Unit of the Department of Forensic Medicine on (02) 9563 9000. Viewings are arranged by appointment.
If the body has been taken to the Newcastle mortuary, please call the Newcastle Department of Forensic Medicine on (02) 4935 9700.
In rural NSW, viewings are generally undertaken at the funeral home.
