Personal belongings

When a death is reported to the Coroner, in most cases, personal belongings are removed before the deceased person is brought to the mortuary. When this happens, police will either return the items to the next of kin or hold the items at the police station to give to the next of kin at a later date.

In some cases, the Coroner may need to hold on to certain items while the investigation is being completed. Once the Coroner has finalised the investigation, the Coroner will arrange for the items to be given back to the next of kin.
