The Office of the Children’s Guardian has cancelled the accreditation of Narang Bir-rong Aboriginal Corporation.
This means Narang Bir-rong is no longer authorised to provide out-of-home care services.
The Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ) has taken over responsibility for the care and case management of children and young people who were supported by Narang Bir-rong.
The safety, wellbeing and cultural connections of children and young people are our highest priorities.
DCJ is working to make sure children and young people continue to receive safe, stable and culturally appropriate care, and supporting their foster and relative/kinship carers to continue their important roles,
We understand this may be a distressing and uncertain time for children, families, carers and communities. DCJ is working to provide clear information and support as arrangements are confirmed.
Children and young people will continue to be cared for, with a focus on safety, stability and keeping disruption to a minimum. Children’s physical placements have not changed, it is only the management of those placements that has changed.
Families will be given clear information about what is happening, what it means for them, and who they can contact for support.
Carers will continue to receive guidance and support as they provide safe and stable care during this transition.
