Relationship with ‘What we do’

Much of the core work of DCJ is governed by statutes (laws) that set out legal duties and functions. For example, our functions in child protection, housing and homelessness, and the justice sector are all governed by key statutes. These statutory services, plus other core services, form the bedrock of our business-as-usual work. This Strategic Plan recognises the importance of these services and sets our intention to ensure they are delivered in a way that is effective for the people we serve.

The priorities outlined in this Strategic Plan are opportunities for more collaborative work across our service lines, but we may need to balance the delivery of the strategic opportunities in this plan with our business as usual statutory and core services. Our nine portfolio Ministers have given us clear direction in each of their portfolio responsibilities, reflecting their priorities. How DCJ will deliver on Ministerial priorities is appropriately detailed in the specific strategic documents that guide each service or function. This Strategic Plan provides a platform for us to deliver on those service-specific priorities.

 In uniting our organisation to deliver under this Strategic Plan, we are ensuring we can effectively respond to differing levels and rates of change across our many services and the systems we steward, whether through transformational change or continuous improvement.
