This Strategic Plan will support and strengthen our work to deliver on our commitments under the National Agreement on Closing the Gap and the NSW Closing the Gap Partnership Agreement.
DCJ leads on five of the 17 Closing the Gap socio-economic targets, in the areas of housing, adult incarceration, youth detention, child protection and out-of-home care, and domestic and family violence. We have made some progress, but more work needs to be done to address the over-representation of Aboriginal people within our systems. Closing the Gap is everyone’s responsibility, and this Strategic Plan will support our staff to understand our commitment to changing the way we work with Aboriginal people, families and communities.
We also support the work of the Premier’s Department (and Aboriginal Affairs) and the NSW Coalition of Aboriginal Peak Organisations (NSW CAPO) to implement the five NSW Priority Reforms. This Strategic Plan makes space for the shared implementation of the Priority Reforms, the shared delivery of initiatives under the NSW Closing the Gap Implementation Plans, and other key strategies that will guide the transformation of DCJ, through the Families and Justice Sector Committee.
