A holistic approach centres the person in the development of appropriate responses and considers their immediate needs, as well as other areas of their wellbeing. It often uses a wrap-around and integrated service approach and can include the wider family within this response. This approach also acknowledges that what works for one person or family may not work for another.
Therapeutic approaches are methods and techniques that improve wellbeing and address the underlying issues or causes for behaviour that lead people to come into contact with DCJ services. This could include drug and alcohol use, mental health issues, cognitive impairment, traumatic experiences or extreme poverty and financial hardship.
We will consider holistic and therapeutic approaches in the design and delivery of our programs and services. For example, diversion and therapeutic programs in the justice space that provide access to rehabilitation, treatment, and community-based supports. Using these approaches, we will promote healing and connectedness and seek to achieve longer-term outcomes for the people and families we serve.
