Communities and Justice

Lismore (Widjabul/Wia-bal) - Aboriginal Art Collection

At our Lismore and Goonellebah Community Service Centres, Artist Sheldon Harrington has used the Creation Story (Three Brothers) to connect two DCJ locations. The artworks are expressed as windows of connection, telling story of knowledge that flows through Widjabul Jogun (Country).

Each mural celebrates and honours our Country, our Culture and our Community. Respectfully communicating patterns of Country and how these patterns guide us everyday.

Country has always communicated its being to the people of Country, in which these communications have always and continue to be held close by the Widjabul People.

About the Artist

Sheldon Harrington is a young local Widjabul Artist from the Bundjalung Nation on the Far North Coast of New South Wales.

Sheldon has been painting, designing and creating for more than 10 years and continues to learn and share the knowledge that has been passed down through his family.

‘My art is more than just tangible objects, it also encompasses values, kinship systems, ways of learning and teaching, communicating and decision making through our way of knowing and doing. As Aboriginal knowledge is alive, living and moving within the country that it belongs to.’

Sheldon works across mediums including painting, textiles, digital art and traditional artefacts to blend traditional Aboriginal art and contemporary/modern design.
